Following the death of Jamie’s maternal Grandmother, nine-year-old Jamie and his brother are separated: Tommy to a welfare home and Jamie to live with his paternal Grandmother and Uncle. Left alone, Jamie’s life is not at all happy and his life is taken over by silence, rejection and violence. In the second film in the trilogy, Douglas paints an uncompromising portrait of youth grounded in specific memories that speaks to a universal relevance.
